Hi All,
Bet you are wondering what I've been up to.....well too much to tell....BUT...I will share this, my sis and I used to own a primitive shop called When Pigs Fly, after we sold it several years ago we got together and formed Bad Girls of the South, we fooled around with that for awhile and then let it rest for a couple of years. Surprise! Surprise! Here's a little catch up post...Too much has gone on since my last post, here are some highlights:

It's FOOTBALL TIME and Stink is doing great this year. I am the official team photographer and web site mom so tht is keeping me BUSY!I have created the website and I tke pictures at every game and then post them to the gallery on the site for the kids to see. I am having a great time, but time consuming it is!!

I took my darling Niece with me to the Sheila Witkin Memorial Concert in South Florida and they honored my Dad , her Pop Pop, and recognized him for all of his contributions to the 1980's music scene that included young guitar players such as this....

It was a great weekend for a good cause and I had so much fun seeing old friends, famous or otherwise!
We are still trying to sell our house....any takers?

We bought a little cottage downtown last week, a foreclosure that needs a total redo...here are some before pics, I will post the afters when we are done. The plan is to move in there when it is finished and keep trying to sell our house, hopefully with it vacant the showings will increase.....

Nice paint color choices huh??? Can you say...DUMP!!!! It will get better, it will be fine,it will get better it will be fine...c'mon say it along with me!
On a sad note we lost one of our pets, our dear old Aussie friend Luke had to be euthanized....we miss him.

Genealogy...Not just for bored old people....

I started searching for my ancestors for no apparent reason, not like I had time...just had to add another thing to do....anyway, I started in 2001 and have done it on again/ off again. I have to stop sometimes because frankly I get so confused I forget who I'm looking for, days turn into weeks, I'm telling you it is mind numbing...Overall it has been rewarding, interesting and addicting. I highly recommend it, it is easier than you think. Rootswebis an awesome place to start. I have several of our family lines all the way back to the 1500's. Through the search I met a great genealogist who turned out to be my twice removed cousin, she is the one who told me about the reunion ( see earlier post today) and was the reason I was able to reconnect with my Great Aunt Pearl, which has been an experience I will always treasure. Since my father passed in 1984, Great Aunt Pearl is one of my few remaining direct descendents.While at the reunion Aunt Pearl asked if I wanted all of the family pics and history that she has been saving all these years. Of course I said it would be my honor to step into her shoes as the caretaker of our family history.As I said before, it has been a rewarding journey and I feel so blessed to have taken it. I never knew anything about my Dad's ancestry beyond his immediate family Please enjoy these photos of my family, who I did not know but of whom I am quite proud.

Everyday I say to myself, " I need to take a pic of that for the blog, or I need to blog this or that....". But as you can see by my not so regular posts it just never gets done. I take the pics...but that's the end of it, but as Elvis says..."You were always on my mind. I , again, am going to try and catch up...sit back this is going to be a long rambling post and who knows where it will lead.....Let's see where to start.....
This past weekend my sis and I , Cass over at Mockingbird Hill and I went to our family reunion on my Dad's side of the family...my dear Dad passed in 1984 so Cass and I still try and keep in contact with what is left of his family. Anywho...my dad grew up in North Florida in Malone, near Two Egg, yes,that really is a name of a town. Both towns are near Marianna, about an hour Northwest of Tallahassee. The reunion was held in Malone at a place called The Joy Club. we visited with our Great Aunt Pearl who is 87.

Other than the whole Popeye thing I have going on with my left eye, it's a pretty good pic of the three of us all in all.
There was sooooo much good ole' southern food there it was a treat for sure!

Hi All,
I have been a bad little blogger and have decided to set aside some time today to catch you all up....In my previous post I had promised pics from Stinks birthday night dinner so I am going to start there and keep going till you are all caught up......

Next came my birthday and the whole group got together and decorated my office ....
My sister surprised me with this cute little girl that she made for my bday...

My adorable neice Bailey came up for a visit...

We went out for dinner at this restaurant whose slogan is ..."I shucked my nuts at Zellie's"...don't know what else to say about that but here's Stink and Big B representin'

Stink's big day for taking his driver's license test was fast approaching....I spent WAYYYY too many afternoons driving around...and around...and around..... with him practicing for his driving test....one day we were making our umpteenth trip down Overlook Drive and look what we saw....
Two baby red foxes out of their den.....sooo cute.....keep driving.......

Next on our list was a Football Fish Fry Fundraiser.....hot is not the word for that day....I thought I would die...but we raised about $8,000 bucks for the team....that's alot of oysters and fried fish.......

Let's see, what next.....hmmm......we decided to build a deck over looking the water behind our house....

This brings us to the BIG DAY.....Stink was ready for the driving test....
And he did it!!! Of course I made him pose in front of the Driver License place for a pic...they even gave hime a lollipop, note the stick in his mouth....

Big B's Mom, Stinks' Nana, is awesome and was gracious enough to give Stink his first truck. The truck had been Daddy J's and when he got a new SUV, Nana and Daddy J were so sweet and offered the truck to Stink.....he is one lucky boy....we are such lucky people, we have an amazing family...
Well, about an hour after passing the driving test, here's what I saw.....

Note the dirt flying from his back tire.....he was gone...like the wind.....

And we have barely seen him since..................

Stink's Birthday Celebration Begins....

Had a little cake issue...when I went to pick up Stink at school, ( with balloons tied to the car no less), he had a friend with him that I had not planned on taking home....the cake was in a bag on the floor of the back seat....big boy with big backpack collided with cake.....
We did the best we could, and Stink did not mind.
Aaaaahhh yes.....the presentation of the sword....this is a BIG deal. Big B's Dad got this during the World War II and after he died when Big B was only 11 he inherited it. This is a precious thing to Big B...he decided that it was time to pass it to his son....Stink was FLOORED he has asked for this sword since he was little. Tyler said he will pass it on to his own son someday..... So sweet of Big B and so meaningful. I have the BEST husband.

Licking the frosting from the candles.....this birthday thing had started off pretty darn good!

Big B's birthday is on April 7th, I'm the 21st and Big T also known as "the stink" is TODAY!!!

It's a whirlwind of birthday fun and excitement......

Needless to say I cried on mine, turning 49 was a bit of a revelation for me...I'm old. Ha!

O-town Lunch, Mom's getting better!

Had to take a quick trip down to Orlando yesterday to take Mom to the Dr.. He said she is doing pretty good considering it's only been a few weeks since her heart attack. My sis , Cass from over at Mockingbird Hill met us for a quick lunch. We live about an hour North of Orlando and Cass lives in Orlando so whenever we go down we meet up. Never pass up a reason to eat right?!

It's Spring break here in Central Florida and I have not spent ONE MINUTE of it with my child...I am feeling sooooooooooooo guilty. Let me fill you in on a little history first...I decided in May of 2006 to open my own real estate brokerage, sounds good right? Not really, the market promptly began to tank and well I am sure you all know the rest of the story. Leave it to me to do this at this time...like it isn't hard enough....anyway, though the office has steadily grown and I am thankful to have many wonderfual agents working for me. I am however working harder than I want to be. My health,family,finances, and sanity are all suffering and I am feeling so badly about it. I am too far in to quit and just have to keep going. But, during times like this when I would normally have planned a vacation or fun time with Tyler , I have had to work the entire week because my main employee had jury duty...another example of excellent timing!!! Well, I was feeling so bad about it all when I came home tonight I asked Big T where he would like to go, well, he loves garlic crabs...ew....so we went to this place called COOL AIDS CRAB SHACK......no kidding, that's the name...
He had a ball and ate sooooo much food, it was really good.
After that, off to the big ice cream cone...
Even Big B got in the act.....yum!
Big T was happy, I feel kinda sorta better but still guilty....
Hopefully this will all turn around soon....
Well, I am just Little Miss Happy aren't I????
Hormones or stress....you decide....
I am gonna go spread my sunshine somewhere else...

Everyone said "Enjoy every minute of it...time goes by really fast, it will be over before you know it." They weren't lying, it is like my child is growing up at the speed of light. He will be driving in a few months, he will be graduating before I know it. It's all making me a little melancholy!

I will be spending the afternoon today at his weightlifting meet in a town about an hour from here. I am riding over with two other Moms who have boys on the team. My sister reminded me to "BE NICE". I don't really play well with others....I will try and be good....have a fun filled day and kiss your kids if you got'm!

I was due for an appointment with the gynecologist later in the week. Early one morning, I received a call from the doctor's office to tell me that I had been rescheduled for that morning at 9:30 am. I had only just packed everyone off to work and school, and it was already around 8:45am. The trip to his office took about 35minutes, so I didn't have any time to spare. As most women do, I like to take extra time to ensure great hygiene When making such visits, but this time I wasn't going to be able to make the full effort. So, I rushed upstairs, threw off my pajamas, wet the washcloth that was sitting next to the sink, and gave myself a quick wash in that area to make sure I was at least presentable. I threw the washcloth in the clothes basket, donned on my clothes, hopped in the car and raced to my appointment. I was in the waiting room for only a few minutes when I was called in. Knowing the procedure, as I'm sure you do, I hopped up on thetable, looked over at the other side of the room and pretended that Iwas in Paris or some other place a million miles away. I was a little surprised when the doctor said, "My, we have made an extra effort this morning, haven't we?" I didn't respond. After the appointment, I heaved a sigh of relief and went home. The rest of the day was normal . Some shopping, cleaning,cooking. After school when my 6 year old daughter was playing, she called out from the bathroom, "Mommy, where's my washcloth?" I told her to get another one from the cupboard. She replied, "No, I need the one that was here by the sink, it had all my glitter and sparkles saved inside it." Never going back to that doctor. Ever.

Every Spring Big B has to shave one of our four dogs...Hannah one of two Aussies that we have has the most massive coat of hair you have ever seen..we feel so sorry for her as it warms up that Big B gives her a shave.....it is our way of saying ,"Welcome Spring!"...sooooooooo gross, I can't tell you..........can you even believe that ALL of that hair came off of one stinkin' dog? We had already bagged up one whole grocery bag full before I took this pic......nasty, nasty, nasty...I hate loose hair...ew....ew...ew......better Big B than me......
At least he has a nice view while he does the dirty deed....the other Aussie in the pic, well, that's Luke, he is Hannah's brother...both are OLD, but quite sweet......
A little rosemary plant that I picked up at the flea market. I love to run my fingers over it, the scent is amazing! Don't you just love my little watermelon eatin' man?????
This is the view outside our back door....we are so lucky......we are so blessed.

Update on Mom...she is home under strict restrictions from her Dr. to stay calm, rest and chill out!!!!This has been a scarey time for us all, thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers, I appreciate it sooooooooooo much!

Jake is takin' over, Mom is doing good

As I posted yesterday, we are babysitting Jake while Mom is in the hospital. This is him last night on Big B's lap during American Idol...
Meanwhile,

our other four dogs are like "What the ?????"

Mom is doing better. Hopefully they will be able to give some new meds to stop this from happening again. She will be in the hospital at least through Friday. Thank you for your prayers for her.

I'm babysitting Mom's new dog Jake....he is quite a handful....ha!

Unfortunately, sweet Mommy had a heart attack on Sunday...she is still in the hospital and will be there all week. Please send up some prayers for her and maybe a comment for her on her blog Pie in the sky Studio.
for when she gets home. Mom will have to SLOW DOWN!!!

Her art is doing well at local shows and one of her pieces was just named most popular by local artists...she is soooooooo excited. That's a pic of it at the top of the post.

My sister, Cass, over at MOCKINGBIRD HILL has been staying at the hospital alot with Mom as she is about an hour away from me and I have to keep Jake....

Thyrogen, my butt and me

I have been debating for days about writing this post but decided if I am to be a good blogger I cannot be afraid to share. I hesitated because there are sooooo many courageous women on these blogs fighting cancer for their lives and for me to tell this story seems trivial in the face of what they are all dealing with....but I feel I need to share this so here goes....

In 1993 I was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer that not only involved my thyroid but also several lymph nodes. I had a total thyroidectomy, see the scar in the box above, then I was admitted to the hospital for about a month and given a gigantic dose of radiation. Apparently it was not enough becasue it came back in 1996.I went through the whole radiation thing again and still hope each day I never have to deal with it again.

Part of staying well includes taking a daily dose of Levoxyl since I have no thyroid and each year having a full body scan. In years past I used to have to go off my med and basically become a sloth prior to the scan but modern medicine prevails and now they give you an injection...well, two injections, one each day, one on each cheek...butt cheek that is....so my ass is achin' as this is day two. Tomorrow I have to be at the hospital at 8:00 to swallow a little radioactive pill and then I have Thursday off...I'm sure I will enjoy Thursday with my sore butt and glowing insides....anyway, Friday is the big day, scan at 8:00.

I am so thankful that this is all that I have to deal with...when I sit in the cancer center waiting to see the Dr. I feel so guilty, I'm not sick... and so many warriors are sitting around me, fighting so hard. I hate that the Dr. takes even a moment with me, he needs to help them. Maybe I am just there to pray for them and call the angels for those who can't ...I don't know I just wish they were all better .

This weekend is the last Renningers Antique Extravaganza for this year. They have three per year starting in November, then in January and the last one in February. It is an amazing gathering of dealers from all over the nation. You cannot finish it in one day and it is grueling...I am whipped

THE YARD SALE...OMG!!!

All hail the yard sale.... when we went out to set up the tables at 6:00 am for a sale that started at 8:00 am I SWEAR there were this many people waiting at the end of the driveway even though we clearly stated in all ads that there would be NO EARLY SALES...notice the raised glasses...I am sure they were drinking because they were the MOST obnoxious group of yard salers I have ever encountered......do I have stories to share. Cass and I were heckled while we were setting up...I am telling you it was unbelieveable! And once the clock struck 8:00 and we let them at the stuff, this is what ensued!
Friggin' animals...one guy actually knocked another guy to the ground and didn't even stop...I was like you have to be kidding me!!!!They were snatching and grabbing at things like it was gold or the answer to world peace.....completely nuts, it's just stuff......
But we had a blast my sis and me. I loved spending the day with her and my neice. Cass's friend Jill came and we all had a good time.
I definitely had my grumpy pants on, those people put me in a mood.....

This weekend I am going to stay at my sisters house to help her with an ENORMOUS estate sale. Two members of her husbands family passed this year and she has all of these wonderful antique things to decide what to do with...so they decided to keep what is most important and estate sale the rest...whew!! What a job...there is this one problem....when she posted pics on her blog, Mockingbird Hill this morning, I promptly decided I wanted it all....except for the gazillion glasses, don't need those....do you think she would be mad if I asked her just to keep it all in her garage for me until I can find a place for it and to hide it from my husband?? If she would do that for me then we could just go shopping Saturday instead of having to stand around and sell stuff....just a thought.
Go look at the pics...cool, shabby stuff.....I'll take more pics when I get there and throughout the day...should be fun.....

When Pigs Fly

We be famous my sister and me! My sister, my Mom and myself had a folk art and primitive shop called When Pigs Fly in Mount Dora for several years. We sold it about 6 years ago. We were lucky enough to be featured in Country Almanac Magazine.....it was a very exciting and rewarding time in our lives. Mom was so excited she had the article framed, see pics! Even though we have moved on to other careers, we still are drawn to that style and the treasure hunting that goes along with it. My darling sis who started me on this whole blogging thing informed me that I needed to get on the stick and start posting so she could start sending people over from her page, Mockingbird Hill . She also said I needed Valentine and Easter stuff....whatever... she always tells me what to do! Ha Haaaaaaaaaa!

Mustard Seed Sign

This is one of my most favorite things, saying that, you will find as time goes by that I have MANY MANY favorite things.......anywho, I bought this sign while flea /junk marketing in Waldo, Florida. A handicapped guy had this little booth set up with just these wood burned signs. Many of them had mistakes and he just burned an "x" through the mistake and kept going. (I think there is definitely a message there!!) I bought two signs from him and the other is packed away somewhere and I will share it when I find it. But this one is on my pine hutch and I look at it everyday...I like it, I hope you do to.

I sat down today and thought about how I could do it...and surprised myself and did it! I can't believe how "girly" it came out or that my blog looks so...so...girly....It was easy once I got started. I have this greeting card program called Print Shop 20 by Broderbund and I do everything in there...I just kept adding to it and saving as a jpeg then adding more....surprised myself...I hope it doesn't look too dorky...what do you think?

I am trying to be a good little blogging girl and post everyday, but I couldn't think of what to share. I know that you are not supposed to think about it, just do it...
Anyway, I just want to say that I love my son. Not that all Moms don't love their kids any more or less, but I love my son. In my profile I tell you that he is a miracle, and he is just that...Tyler is adopted and the journey of him coming to me is an amazing tale that I will share in time to come.I wasn't able to have kids and when I was younger I couldn't understand why, now I know why, I was meant to be Tyler's Mom. It's always so hard to just let go and not question what happens in our lives, like we know how it's all supposed to go.
I am just thankful, blessed and happy to have him....just wanted to tell ya...

Well everybody's asking so I guess I gotta tell...These two sweet little girls are my Aunt Vonne and my Mom Abby, (she's the little one). Their given names were Etta Mae Von Holten and Anna Belle Von Holten. Our family has this wacky way of calling you anything but what your given name is, so for the rest of your life your tormented by people saying, "Why don't you use your REAL name?". Like from the crib we could make that request!?...okay I am off track....When they were little Mom and Aunt Vonne had a vacant lot next door to their house and they decided one day that it was going to be THEIR park so they named it Maebelle Park, get it? Etta Mae and Anna Belle = Maebelle.... That's another thing that runs in our family, all of the women believe in their heart that they ARE the Queen of the Universe and if an overgrown plot of land is going to be their park then by golly it's their park!This pic was taken when a roving photographer came by when they were playing in "their" park and asked if they wanted a picture taken, note their dirty knees! So I have taken on the awesome responsibility of keeping the story of Maebelle Park alive, it's a real place, even if only in two very special little girls minds...

This sign hangs over my breakfast room doors. It comes from Ohio or Illinois or some state up there where they grow stuff. Anyway, supposedly it was from a nursery where they grew trees that were....you guessed it...everbearing. However, it has never meant that to me...depending on my mood or whatever is happening in my life it has meant different things but it never has had anything to do with growing trees, maybe just growing myself.

Well, my wacky sister has dragged me to the blogging field. She swears by it, she loves it , she lives by it....wacky, wacky wacky.....anyway here I go.....
Why the sad angel on my big introduction day? It is who I am for this moment... My very best friend died almost three years ago and he called me before he passed and made me promise to spread his ashes at the ocean. His "real" family could not bring themselves to let his ashes go until now. They had spread part of them in the woods up North, he wanted that...and then he wanted me to bring him to the ocean. I promised. I have to. Now that his ashes are here and I can finally do it I feel a very big hole in my heart filling up. I did not realize that I have been carrying this with me for three years, pushing it down, waiting, waiting , waiting....well now he's here and it is time...I think I'll wait , keep him near a little while longer until I am ready to let him go....
